This has been a really busy month of travel for me! I just came back from Atlanta where I attended the 2010 Boys and Girls Clubs of America Chairman's Dinner at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
I have been a part of BGCA since 2004 and through them I have been involved in their partnership with Cartoon Network since 2007 so this event was a wonderful tie in as Cartoon Network was the night's presenting sponsor.
The theme for the evening was Great Futures Start Here, which was very fitting as that is exactly what BGCA aim to do for all kids, start great futures! We all came together with the common goal of celebrating the kids, raising awareness and funds and that is exactly what we did! During the presentation I spoke about my involvement with both BGCA and CN and about their new initiative Stop Bullying: Speak Up. As you may have seen in the media this is a very critical issue right now and with October being National Bullying Prevent Month, a very fitting time to bring to everyone's attention. The dinner also honored three amazing youths, Maria Hernandez, Nathan Campbell and Xavier Lazarus with Youth of the Year awards. Their stories were not only inspirational but a true testament of how the BGCA truly impact and change the course of a youths life. Another highlight of the evening was watching the talents of a young violinist by the name of Robert Green. He was so good!
Although I was only in Atlanta for a few hours I am so glad I was able to do my part in honoring the kids, raising awareness and generating support for the BGCA.
p.s. also got my picture taken with Scooby Doo, Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny!
