The US Open

Hi Everyone!

What a great trip to New York for the US Open! I was there to play in an exhibition match with Martina Hingis against Pat Cash and Mats Wilander. I had an amazing time both on and off the court. I have always loved the Open so it was great to be back at Flushing Meadows after being away for a few years.

I started my day with a warm up with Martina. It was great to be hitting with her again since we had so much fun at Wimbledon! We always have a great time even during practice. After our hit is when my day really started to pick up and get busy. First I taped some promo videos for my upcoming trip to Washington DC for WTT Smash Hits on November 15th. (Look out for them on WTT.com!) From there it was off to an autograph signing. There was a wonderful turn out of people that had been waiting in line for hours. It was cool to meet so many people who came from all over the country to watch some amazing tennis! After the signing I taped a segment for The Food Network's Ace of Cakes. Chef Duff and his team made the most unbelievable cake of the entire tennis center and it even included the New York City back drop. It had the most amazing detail I have ever seen in a cake.

The cake was so incredible looking at it almost made you feel bad for wanting to cut a big piece out of it to eat. But once it was cut and pieces were being handed out I had to try it and it was just as good on the inside!

Once my off court obligations were done I had time to prepare for what was to be the kick off to the night session. We were to go on right before the Nadal/Verdasco quarterfinal match. Unfortunately the other men's quarterfinal match went past 7.30pm so we had to wait until after the Nadal match was completed. Which was kind of cool because it gave me time to catch up with some old friends in the players lounge and even do a little shopping. We had to go out and buy sweatshirts because it was freezing! We didn't get on the court until after 11.30pm, but it was cool when we walked out to find that a lot of the fans stayed to watch us despite the late hour. It was a blast to be out there with Martina playing against Pat and Mats. As you guys have probably read the conditions at the Open were all over the place either super hot or super windy and unfortunately we got the wind that night. The crowd was great and so into the match. We all fed off the fans and their enthusiastic  energy. Martina and I almost pulled an upset. We were up 4-1 pretty quick, but then the guys started to make their comeback and eventually won the set 7-5. Overall it was a great feeling to be back out on Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest tennis stadium in the world. I had so much fun both on and off the court and look forward to going back next year!
